After a many years as a jewellery designer I decided to pursue the complimentary passions of painting and plants. I have been a student at Heatherley’s School of Fine Art in London on and off since 2006 and continue to explore oil painting with Danny Cuming. My latest work is inspired by the plants and landscapes around me, in particular trees and woodland which I have been attempting to capture in oil and charcoal.
I am greatly influenced by the Arts and Crafts gardens of Gertrude Jekyll and Christopher Lloyd and by the contemporary planting of Arne Maynard and Tom Stuart-Smith. Like my paintings my planting style makes use of colour and texture, while having a romantic influence with many self-seeding plants freely spreading themselves around.
To me painting and gardening are completely compatible, but sadly there are never enough hours in the day.
